First Steering Committee of the SmartAL Project

Erasmus+ Capacity building project “SmartAL: Master in European Innovations for a Sustainable Management of Albanian territories, rural areas and Agriculture” was co-organised by the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies -Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (CIHEAM-IAMM) – as the Coordinator –and the Agricultural University of Tirana (UBT) – as a member of the Project Consortium –, on 22 & 23 October.

On the 22 October, Magali Maire, SmartAL Project Coordinator, CIHEAM-IAMM representative, after the welcome of the consortium members*, thanked them for their high involvement and commitment in the project.

She referred to the Preventive Field Monitoring Visit for the SmartAL project led by the Erasmus+ Agency in Albania in June 2018 during one week at the European University of Tirana and at the Albanian Erasmus + Office: Ms Aida Breti, Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Office in Albania and her team, met the 3 Albanian Universities representatives and discussed the project implementation from the perspective of the Albanian institutions involved.

The monitoring team acknowledged that the project has made good progress towards achieving it goals and objectives. The Erasmus+ Office also took note of the good pace of implementation of the activities related to the first work packages developed to date.

 

Magali Maire sincerely thanked the Erasmus + Office for this monitoring as a very fruitful feedback and as a assurance that the project is  in the right track. She also thanked all the participants of the respective Universities for the time they devoted to the discussions and for having provided updated information on the project implementation.

She declared this very positive feedback encourages the consortium members to go ahead and to continue the efforts to achieve the projects objectives.

The members of the Steering Committee, after a presentation of the Quality Plan submitted by Dr Fatmir Guri of the UBT and Pr Pascal Chevalier of the University Paul Valéry Montpellier (UPV), in collaboration with the CIHEAM-IAMM, validated it as a structural framework of the project.

The Communication Plan and communications tools were then presented by Dr Ketrina Çabiri Mijo, European University of Tirana (UET), as the leader of the Communication Work Package, and validated by the Steering Committee.

Finally, a reminder of the financial rules related to the Management of Capacity Building Projects as well as a financial statement of the project to date, were provided by the Coordinator.

On the 23 October, a reminder of the 2018-2019 Work Plan was provided by the CIHEAM-IAMM and the objectives of the mobilities of Albanian & EU teachers were detailed.

Dr Elena Kokthi, Teacher and Researcher at the UET, presented its first experience of the mobility at the CIHEAM-IAMM and pairing of teachers with Dr Tahani Abdelhakim of the CIHEAM-IAMM, and the starting of a Master module design.

The pairing of Albanian / EU teachers was set up, and discussions on the design of modules’ methodology were held among partners: the UBT, the UET and the University Fan S. Noli of Korçë, as the Albanian higher education institutions of the Consortium; the University of Hohenheim (Germany), the University of Panteion (Greece), the University Paul Valéry Montpellier (France) and the CIHEAM-IAMM (France) being the European ones.

Europe Day: SmartAL as a success story!

On the occasion of Europe day on 9th of May 2018, the European Union Delegation to Albania organized the EU village. The aim of the event was to promote EU values and success stories from different realms of life. In the section of Higher Education, SmartAL was presented as one of the success stories from Albania, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

Concertation Meeting with Albanian Stakeholders

SmartAL Erasmus+ CBHE  project organized its concertation meeting on 28th of January 2018, with different public and private stakeholders in Albania. Working in the field of territorial management and rural development

Kick off meeting- SmartAL project starts operating!

In the premises of CIHEAM, leading partner of the project during 30th of November and 1st of December 2017. Throughout the kick of meeting the project partners worked intensively to shape and agree on the next steps of this three-year Erasmus+ CBHE project.

First Design Workshop

firstFirst Design Workshop of the SmartAL project, was held during 15 & 16 March 2018 in Korça, Albania. The workshop aimed at establishing a first draft curriculum of the Master and validating the teacher twinning program as well as the teacher’s capacity plan.

Quality Plan

Two level of quality assurance will be used throughout the entire project duration:

-  Quality assurance of the whole project: the aim is to assure the compliance of the project processes and results with the standards agreed among the Partners (identified indicators of progress), and to implement a continuous quality monitoring. 

-  Quality assurance of the 9 Modules: the Albanian HEI-s have to follow an well-defined procedure for the quality assurance. HEI-s should build up internal quality bodies and respect the quality procedures foreseen by the existing Public Standard. A better quality assurance framework reflecting the Albanian public standards requests, and integrating best Albanian and EU practices will be set up.

Dissemination and exploitation

The dissemination and exploitation strategy enables SmartAL project to optimize its outcomes and impacts (including both theory and methodological processes and educational teaching/material). Dissemination will be an integral part of each activity of the project.
This WP activity supports the following objectives :
- Provide information about the achievement of the project.
- Increase the impact of the project.
- Maintain and create contacts with stakeholders of the project.
- Generate new partnership.
- Create a platform to ensure sustainable dissemination of the project outcomes.
This will be achieved through the creation of a website, Open House Days, Two conferences, several ongoing promotional campaings on our social media pages, creation of an Alumnii Assosciation

Management

The main objective of WP8 is to ensure the overall administrative and financial management of the project as well as the coordination and stimulation of all WP. WP8 is an overarching WP designed to support all the activities of the project. In particular by ensuring the smooth exchange of administrative and financial information and data, WP8 will guaranty that the resources are made available on time to each WP leader for them to implement their tasks as foreseen.
